Winter – ‘Hazy’ EP

Post Author: Jeff Cubbison

L.A. act conjures dreamy, intimate vibes on new EP

Under the moniker Winter, L.A. musician Samira Winter crafts dreamy, psychedelic-tinged shoegaze-pop soundscapes with an airy, ethereal edge. In the past half-decade, she’s released a handful of terrific records, including 2015’s Supreme Blue Dream and 2018’s Ethereality. Having grown up in Brazil, she also dabbles in elements of bossanova and Música Popular Brasileira, as evidenced by Estrela Mágica, last year’s dynamic team-up EP with fellow L.A. psych-rockers Triptides.

Today, Winter drops a brand new EP titled Hazy on Bar/None Records, and it’s full of breezy instrumentals and intimate, confessional vibes. There’s a more pastoral, slowcore sensibility emanating from tracks like “Bad News” and the Justus Proffit-featuring “Staying In,” recalling the fragile, introspective sounds of acts like Dear Nora or Red House Painters. The slowly swelling “Nothing More,” meanwhile captures a breathtaking lo-fi dream-pop aura with its effervescent guitars and her impossibly serene vocal performance. Overall, it’s a beautiful, poignant record that parses “the ways we’re cultured to love.”

Hazy is out now via Bar/None. You can order the EP HERE, or sample it below via Bandcamp. Also, Winter is set to perform with Varsity and Emily Reo at Market Hotel in New York on 12/21. You can grab tickets for that show HERE.
