Late last year, The National Parks released their 3rd studio effort Places and we debuted the title track right here on IMPOSE. Given the overwhelming response to the record, the band has since announced a deluxe version of the LP — Places Deluxe — due out next Friday, February 9th. Today, IMPOSE is pleased to share the album’s third single, a tune released just for the deluxe record, “Come Closer.” Listen below.
The infectious pop-sensibility of The National Parks runs rampant on “Come Closer,” a clearly defined ode to love as the chorus chimes, “When you’re gone, I’m a ghost, I’m alive when you’re close.” It takes about a minute for the drums kick in and from there, the song continues to build up until the bridge where piano takes forefront with a crisp vocal harmony. Then there’s the delicate violin solo, which quickly leads back into the multi-layered essence of the song, ending in an anthemic double chorus.
Brady Parks, the band’s frontman elaborates, “‘Come Closer’ was actually the first demo we took into the studio for Places but we had a really hard time getting it to a place that we felt good about. So we put it on the back burner and over the course of about a year, while we recorded the rest of the album, I continued to work on it. I ended up completely re-writing this song about 2 – 3 times and still wasn’t happy with it so it didn’t make it onto the initial release of Places. But I loved the core elements of it so I gave it one more shot, practically re-wrote it one more time, and that’s what it took to finally get it right. So we’re really excited to finally be sharing this one.”
One thing is for sure, The National Parks know how to tastefully blend band pop with indie folk. The eclectic five-piece ensemble is getting ready to hit the road with Ron Pope. Find their upcoming dates below.
