Originally formed as the solo endeavor of Rob Cimitile, the genre-blending Builder of the House expanded its sonic scope with the addition of Elliot Heeschen in 2012. The chance meeting happened when both musicians joined a Zimbabwean marimba band and found a common bond, with Heeschen adding drums and samples to Cimitile’s acoustic guitar patterns setting up both to experiment more.
Last year, Builder of the House unveiled their latest LP, Ornaments, which runs the gamut of folk and indie-pop styles as the duo’s unique approach to rhythms blends to offer something new to lose yourself in with each track. It’s the song “Pray for Me,” the video of which is premiering today, that perhaps serves as the largest departure from the album’s central aesthetic coming together as something echoing Broken Bells more than The Shins. The dark, atmospheric track finds Cimitile employing an ethereal croon as his pleas of “Please, pray for me,” hit even heavier in the video as he stands alone in the shadows as visions of dancers swirl.
