When our good friend Open Mike Eagle swung through Gotham for a swift set of shows in mid-April, we wanted to spend a little downtime with the hyper self-aware rapper. So first we took him to Frankel’s—the new Jewish delicatessen owned by El-P, Despot, and Holy Ghost!‘s Alex Frankel—where he met up with Jean Grae for the finest in Kosher cuisine. Then it was off to Barcade, where he was scheduled to do an interview with Perfect Pussy’s Meredith Graves. The interview would happen, but not until a four-person battle of Pac-Man was waged. Downtime is often a fleeting concept for touring musicians, but we’d like to think we did our part in keeping Mike fed and imbibed for this #Following series.
