Tucson, Arizona. Due to 350 days of sunshine a year, it’s the sunniest city in the United States. The downtown bus station was named after Linda Ronstadt’s family. And, there are rumors that Justin Bieber owns several acres of land in Marana, AZ, just a little northwest of the city at hand. But, more importantly, Tucson is also home to Dirt Friends, a five-piece indie rock group. Last June, they released their most recent album, Sunsets & Night Sweats, a collection of ten psych-pop driven tracks.
“My Guts” was the opener of the dreamy compilation, and Dirt Friends have set quite a prickly scene for the accompanying video. Tucson is filled with cacti, particularly the Saguaro. Dirt Friends’ video centers on one lonely cactus, trying to find a place to belong within the Sunny City. Over the course of a day, the cactus is turned away from businesses, finally fitting in at a boisterous party. It’s lighthearted, witty, and calming to take in. The track itself matches its visual counterpart, too– Tame Impala style dream pop splashed with a bit of The Replacements.
