Netflix has rolled out trailers for the first two artists set to be featured on their upcoming Rapture documentary series. The preview clips started off with a visit with Rapsody, as she delivers the meaning behind her name and admits that she wants to go down as one of the best rappers ever. Her well-regarded “Laila’s Wisdom” project is a strong contribution towards that effort.
The second trailer focuses on A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, another artist trying t. He’s from the Bronx, hip-hop’s birthplace, but his sound belies the modern, melody-focused sound of artists like Drake. Perhaps it’s a testament to hip-hop’s post-regionalism. Boogie credits the internet for the circumstance, noting “if it wasn’t for the internet, I don’t know where I would be.” Wouldn’t be on Netflix, that’s for sure.
Rapture is a partnership with Mass Appeal and will follow around some of hip-hop’s hottest names. Along with upstarts Rapsody and A Boogie, Rapture will focus on legends like Nas, Just Blaze, TI, and 2 Chainz.
