The Vignettes
Introducing the debut single from Glasgow’s own The Vignettes with “Young Bohemians”, available August 25 from the good people over at In Black Records. Invitations to the esoteric underground abound as Hamish Swanson, Innes MacKintosh, Sean Mason & Matthew Bird apply rhythmic-arithmetic chord progressions that match the track’s percussive nature that bops with an all-inclusive vibe. Whereas many tracks concerns themselves as being the gatekeepers wielding fiery swords to defend their throne; Vignettes dearly invite you to be a young bohemian just like them & their band of merry pranksters.
“Young Bohemians” takes you to their little clandestine subterranean sector with a boiling brew of excited illustrations of enthusiastic invitations. Bass & rhythm guitar chord progressions skip along to the animated drum cycles that spin the song along as it travels through the pinwheel motions of the day’s order of operations toward a gratification enjoyed by a counter-culture collective. With liberal amounts of cow bell thrown into the mix for good measure; The Vignettes wear their poetics proudly on their sleeves like a band of artful dodgers that discard their schoolbooks for experiments of the pop variety. “Young Bohemians” is situated like something of a social experiment/experience that is set up like an event deserving of being choreographed into a lively dance sequence for the visual component. The Vignettes request the audience attendance to witness the bohemian Glaswegian groves of fascinating places & phenomenons that that outside realms know little about.
