New Portals
Hear New Portals’ debut Stereo EP that kicks off with the title track that illuminates with it’s own erratic & ecstatic percussion sequences. “Sunshine” busts out the brass & slows things down for a bit, as “Move So Slow” keeps that motif slowly burning direct into the haunting beauty of “Fill Me Up” that floats into the frame of “Groove Boy” that truly illustrates why there is such a buzz surrounding this group (especially coming from other artists). We patiently await the grand debut full-length from New Portals, but we gladly accept the eardrum candy of their hotly anticipated EP debut.
The maximalist pop of Stereo in a way points to the successes of the undergrounds unrelenting influences over the recent years in bringing basement sounds to the surface with a sense of prestige. The title “Stereo” is a fine example of this where the new electronic fields of dance are entertained, just as “Sunshine” experiments with pluming bass pop tonations that lead into the wild sequencing of “Move So Slow”. Mysterious lusters shine forward on “Fill Me Up”, keeping that party going for the long & late night haul with “Groove Boy”. The duo introduced their Stereo EP with the following exclusive insights dispatched from the road:
Our debut EP, Stereo is a compilation of songs recorded over the past 18 months since we first hit the studio. They seemed to fit loosely together—they’re about reminiscing on our teenage years and the simplicity of life back then, before ambition and life responsibilities started getting in the way. We revealed a little of our personalities with these five songs. Sometimes chill, some times playful, sometimes cheeky and threw in few artistic risks for good measure.
