Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah is going for the trifecta. After releasing his Ruler Rebel and Diaspora albums in March and June respectively, he’s set to release The Emancipation Procrastination on October 20th via Ropeadope records. The prolific instrumentalist has displayed his sonic diversity on each project, blending elements of hip-hop, r&b and soul into a jazz palette that highlights the dynamism of each genre.
Such is the case with “Avengher,” a gleaming five minute composition which is the first single from the Emancipation project. “Avengher,” titled true to Adjuah’s knack for clever wordplay, sounds like a forlorn soundtrack to a rescue scene. The track’s minimalist hip-hop drums and mysterious keys work around horn play that alternates between serenity and fierce wailing as the track progresses. It’s another beautiful number that bodes well for Adjuah’s chances of pulling off a hat trick of amazing music projects.
