With a peak position of #8 on the Top 100 Electronic Albums charts on iTunes, Free The Robots' Ctrl+Alt+Delete is blap bounce outside the Low End Theorists' territory.
Hailing from Santa Ana, CA in Orange County, a.k.a. Cougar Capital of California, Chris Alfaro started Free The Robots as a side project, while playing in different bands, producing MCs and DJing. He took up residence at The Crosby, a restaurant, bar and bookstore, throwing shows regularly and testing the waters on his new solo project. Free The Robots is the convergence of his hectic projects into a focused blend of analog and digital compositions. “Orion's Belt Buckle” comes in with heavy waves amidst crunching and cracking breaks, then flips into a blippy crunk beat. Somebody needs to doctor a video of Johnny 5 doing robot dances to this song.
Ctrl+Alt+Delete makes a lot of noise alone, but any buzz surrounding this record is much deserved. From the alien invasion of “Sci-Fidelity” to the meditative Turkish psyche-out of “Turkish Voodoo,” this debut will undoubtedly be amongst the elite in year end electronic records released in 2010. Glitch Mob may want to reconsider taking Alfaro out on tour in May as he could potentially steal the show as the opener.
