NYC artist fuses shoegaze and cumbia on eclectic new single
Kam Tambini is a rising musician from New York who draws from elements of shoegaze, dream-pop, and hip-hop as well as cumbia sounds from his childhood spent in Peru and Colombia. Under the moniker Tambino, he conjures shimmering lo-fi melodies and eclectic percussion, with a voice that radiates soothing cool. Following on from his work with NYC band Glass Gang, Tambino is now turning heads with his brand new single “Blonde Undone,” the first taste of his forthcoming self-titled debut EP.
On this gem of track, glistening synths and understated guitar riffs form an impeccable DIY-pop melody that wraps around a swirl of pulsating rhythms. Tambino’s enticing, riveting voice lays down half English, half Spanish-sung lyrics as the track ebbs and flows in hypnotizing ways. The combination of reverb-soaked melodies and groovy cumbia textures yields a brilliant sonic middle point – “cumbiagaze,” if you will. “Blonde Undone” is the first single off his Tambino EP, which arrives on April 7.
