Funk & Soul holy men return in grand, glorious fashion
It’s easy to get hooked onto forward-thinking musicians and their pursuit of prime musical advancement. The New Mastersounds are one such group that seem to evolve with splendid acclaim with time. In fact, it’s been a full 20 years since the quartet first graced the airwaves. These funk and soul holy men – Eddie Roberts, Simon Allen, Pete Shand and Joe Tatton – somehow find treasured bits of sounds that stick with listeners through the ages. True fans remain forever grateful. As the 2019 summer pummels through without remorse, the release of their latest single, “Kings & Queens” with Lamar Williams, Jr, solidifies The New Mastersounds’ majestic shine in the midst of it all.
Listeners will be more than pleased with this track as it hits all the best bits that makes a New Mastersound tune memorable. From the start, there’s a groove that never leaves long after the song ends its final beat. Funk reigns supreme, and the world is better for it every step of the way. An added horn section brings out the skill in their style, while Lamar Williams, Jr.’s eloquent and masterful lyricism keeps the song flourishing. The blues sneak in here and there with supported praise in various riffs. If this is even a tiny snippet of the glory to come with their new album Shake It, (set for release this fall via Color Red) then listeners are in for a real treat. All hail The New Mastersounds once more. Listen to “Kings & Queens” below.
