The Pantheon is a basement recording project led by Seth Applebaum and Greg Hanson. As a collective, the duo brought in Laura Gwynn, Stephen Selman, Josh Park, and Ino Aksentiev to contribute. Or as the group puts it themselves: “The Pantheon is Greg and Seth…but it’s also Laura, Ino, Stephen, Josh, and whoever else wanders into the basement.”
Enter… is their latest creation, as a 5-track experience rich in psych sensibility.
I’ve always been partial to track listings which favor a complete listen, as Enter… does.
- I
- II
- III
- IV
- V
If you happen to come across this project and just listen to “III”, your natural curiosity is preyed upon — did I miss the backstory? Shouldn’t I listen to the whole thing? Yes, you should.
Enter… is more of an experience than it is an EP. Light for the ear and dark for the soul, you carry away a sense of mystery with each progressing track. At its onset, the texture of the droning is the harshest it gets, until the guitar work comes through to calm the waters. At points, you even get a little cheery until the buzzing of what could only be UFOs in “II” take you to a different place.
It’s white noise with character here, and droned out surf rock over there. Nothing wrong with a little cohesive variety.
You can ‘name your price’ on the EP from The Pantheon on their Bandcamp page.
