Young songwriter is making a name for herself on the U.K. country scene
Born and raised in Yorkshire, Jess Thristan has recently emerged as one of the most exciting new country music artists in the UK. She wrote her debut single “The Shield” at just 15 years old and soon found herself performing a track for a Sky TV Christmas campaign.
Her recent single ‘The Old Me’ was premiered on Country Hits radio and went on to receive support from Spotify’s influential “Very Nearly Nashville” playlist. She’s also shared the stage with the likes of Remember Monday, Jade Helliwell and Andy Brown, and appeared at Buckle & Boots Festival this year. The new single ‘Your Turn’ is an emotive, reflective piece of British country that’s sure to cement Jess as a force in the genre.
“Your Turn was inspired by a conversation I had with Nick Wilson, who I wrote this track with, in our session. We were chatting about growing up and how fast life can go by — how when you’re so young and growing up you might not take life as seriously. I was watching the difference in me and the people close to me of different ages and how we were all at different times in our lives. For me, this song really encapsulates that feeling of being young and carefree, but feeling the expectations of growing up. Nick and I had so much fun writing this track and to have him in the story of this song even more by singing backing vocals was an honour,” Thristan says. Listen to it below.
