“Animals” is the new single from New York City based band Upright Man. The rock trio is made up of Aidan Dolan (guitar/vocals), Nick Katz (bass/vocals) and Max Yassky (drums/percussion/background vocals). They all met in college at New York University, and their undeniable chemistry resulted in the formation of Upright Man. They combine a lot of different sounds and genres such as classic rock, psychedelic, and alternative, culminating in their unique sound that is present in “Animals”.
The bass line and vocals remind me of Tool, but Upright Man concocted these amazing harmonies in the chorus that would have the staunchest anti-rock person nodding in approval. Here is a quote from the band about the single: “We had maybe eight different working lyric ideas floating around for this song. Ultimately, we scrapped the lot of them in favor of writing about animals, because animals are cool.”
