Warm Soda, "This Changes Everything"

Post Author: Virginia Croft

Reminiscent of both The Kooks and the Velvet Underground, Austin based band Warm Soda brings pop and fizz to an otherwise rather lo-fi track. Comprised of songwriter/guitarist Matthew Melton, guitarist Max Eaton, bassist Austin Shockley, and drummer Caleb Dawson, the foursome heads into their fourth and final album, and just as the song at hand suggests, this changes everything. We’ve grown accustomed to Warm Soda’s brand of glam rock, its cozy corners and deep sound. To part ways with such a group is a bit much to swallow, but their final installment will be enough to get us through, as “This Changes Everything” proves.
The track is raucous but contained, Melton’s vocals soaring through laid back melodies but descending into nostalgia. It’s perfect for a high school dance montage, or rather the rebels who skip the dance and stargaze on the football field instead. “This Changes Everything” asks why things won’t go the way they should– yet we’re thankful they didn’t, for they brought a perfectly dreamy serenade.
“We decided to include This Changes Everything and Tell me in a Whisper on the final album because previously they had only come out on a limited edition euro-tour 7″ single on Goodbye Boozy Records (Italy),” explains Melton. “It was recorded back at the original Fuzz City Studio in Oakland CA in 2013 featuring Rob Good on guitar and Ian McBrayer on drums.”

I Don’t Wanna Grow Up is out April 21st on Castle Face. It is available for preorder now.
