After what just happened in the Bahamas, it may be time to consider that we’re currently at the Festival bubble. Luckily though, there are entrenched institutions like the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, which will be carrying out its 39th event this summer. The free event series, which takes place at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, will have 31 performances this year.
The festivities begin on June 7th with a free concert by Brooklyn-based band Lake Street Dive, and continue on through August 12th. Performers run a diverse spectrum, from Indie Bands like People’s Champs and Cymbals Eat Guitars to hip-hop acts like The Soul Rebels (with Talib Kweli) and Pharoahe Monch, the latter of whom will be a part of the 16th rendition of the Bud Light Music Series on June 24th.
This year also marks the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, which will be celebrated with performances by Esperanza Spalding and Andrew Bird on July 28th as a part of the American Express Series. Dozens more acts will perform during weekend shows including Pharoah Sanders, Yeasayer, Amadou & Miriam, Musiq Soulchild and more.
