The already-teeming Brooklyn festival scene just got a little busier with the 1st annual BRIC OPEN Festival this April 27-30th. BRIC, a purveyor of arts & culture events throughout the borough, plans to utilize their downtown Brooklyn media house to “illuminate the power of inclusive, participatory arts and media,” which challenges notions about “creation” and “consumption” of culture, as the press release stated.
Legendary Talking Heads co-founder David Byrne will perform his Reasons to Be Cheerful set on April 27th, which will offer his perspective on local and global affairs. Mark Stewart will be one of the many guitarists at the participatory Guitar Mash: A Campfire Jam along with Emel, Scott Sharrard, Delicate Steve and other prominent guitarists.
Hip-Hop legend Ralph McDaniels will present a special edition of the Video Music Box Live! program, and here will also be several theater performances, including Theater of War’s live performance of Martin Luther King’s final sermon “The Drum Major Instinct.” The program combines several prominent actors with community choirs and musicians in New York and Ferguson, Missouri.
