John Yingling has toured Asia twice over for a film project entitled The World Underground. What began as Gonzo Chicago, a video exploration of his city and its music scene, grew to include Montana, and eventually swelled into a worldview of underground music. After two years of traveling and documenting, crowd-sourcing, and exhausting editing hours, the first episode of The World Underground has premiered, along with the launch of The World Underground website.
World Underground is about venturing into the underground music scenes around the globe in an attempt to “capture a moment in time” and find an answer the age old question: “Where’s the best new music coming from?” Episode One sets the series off in China, the full length documentary has a quick pace, showcasing over three dozen artists and musicians, as well as short interviews with bands and anyone who has something to say or a story to tell.
The website contains links to listen to archived live recordings of the bands seen and featured on The World Underground, contacts to the venues and bands, a donation page, and links to watch the first episode on Youtube, Vimeo, or the option to buy it in HQ for $6 and help fund the next episode.
The World Underground is hosting an Indiegogo fundraiser to complete Episode Four: Indonesia.
