Pulp @ Bill Graham Civic Auditorium

Post Author: Greg Chow

The reunited and reinvigorated Britpop band hit San Francisco on September 16th–one of only four US cities on their brief North American headlining tour (and the 557th Pulp show, according to a pre-show graphic on the big screens). Frontman Jarvis Cocker is still surprisingly spry into his 60s, leaping and bounding (and occasionally laying down) around the stage. The crowd was uproarious all through the opener “I Spy,” but really kicked it up notch at the start of “Disco 2000.”
The pre-show slideshow “educated” the crowd about encores–how the happen, how they are earned (applause!) etc. And the crowd apparently did a great job: Encore 1 ended with hit probably their most famous song, “Common People,” before the band came out for a second encore, wrapping up the show with This is Hardcore‘s “Glory Days.”
