What is the earliest record you can remember listening to, and who introduced it to you?
I remember falling asleep religiously to Delilah on the radio. I had it right next to my bed blaring in my ear. I specifically loved The Police “Every Breath You Take”
Does that artist or album influence your work now?
Yah, actually. It’s almost ironic how much The Police (Sting) and specifically that song have influenced me. It’s about a dark and lovely romance and makes me feel better about my fascination with obsession.
Did you have an “aha” moment when you decided that music was your calling? If so, what was that like?
Many moments but not one in particular. I grew up in Arkansas, both my parents doing hair in a salon out of our home. I would kind of entertain the clients while their color processed, and I always felt more like myself when performing.
Your track “Metal Boy” makes us feel like we’re in the underwater level of a Mario Bros. game. It’s fun and beautiful at the same time, and the lyrics add more sincere layer to it all. What inspired that track, specifically?
Thank you. First of all, I love that comparison— the underwater level was the best.
I wrote the song about a secret love that you’re willing to risk it all for. Metal Boy isn’t just a guy with ripped jeans and band t-shirts, but a personification of a dangerous and thrilling romance.
Do you have any personal anecdotes from production?
It was honestly quite an easy song to write because I think It had been in the back of my mind for a while living in my subconscious. Because of that, the track, melodies and lyrics were all born at the same time. I sat down at my computer, pulled up my favorite synth, Diva, and started playing some chords. It all flowed from there.
How do you imagine people listening to that song?
Driving fast in a DeLorean DMC-12 into the night sitting next to the person they’ve always wanted to know.
How would you describe your sound, specifically?
It’s what you get when a singer songwriter falls in love with synth wave. Nostalgia fueled by analog synths and dreamy vocals.
What are 3 things that you think everyone should know about you, or aspects you think are important to know off the bat?
I value honesty over everything.
I hate wasting time.
I talk too much and too fast but I’m working on it.
What would your dream collaboration be?
Oh God there’s too many. Between music and film but I will say… doing a video with BRTHR (guy who did Ben Khan and the weeknd).
What’s in the pipeline for 2017? Or, more eloquently, how do you plan to follow up the success of the EP in the next year?
I am very into visuals. I love filmmaking, directing and editing all of my videos and that is a big part of this next year. I have a few interesting series I am working on at the moment that I can’t wait to finish editing and release on my channel.
