Holy Sons Preps for In The Garden Album Release With a Stunning Sense of Humor

Post Author: Meredith Schneider

Brooklyn’s Holy Sons (Emil Amos) is one funny guy. With his new album coming out on October 21st – and a few tour dates to celebrate – he’s got a lot to be proud of. And yet he speaks of his work in the most humble manner we may have ever actually experienced. Enjoy a couple of the songs off the upcoming album below, and then let our short interview make you laugh a bit.

It’s Friday. You deserve it.

If you could make a grand entrance in any way possible, how would you do so?

EA: I wouldn’t do that… I just wasn’t built that way. I’d rather sneak in and out the backdoor.

What was the first record or song you remember listening to, and who introduced it to you?

EA: The Magical Mystery tour and Abbey Road are my first memories of my parents playing records around the house when I was in diapers.

Was there a defining moment when you realized that you wanted to pursue music as a career?

EA: Yes but that was always combated by the ongoing realization that I didn’t necessarily want to “pursue music as a career”… it was just something I’d be doing everyday either way. Eventually the career thing somehow occurred and now I wake up into the rat race daily.

As a little background for our audience, what is the origin story of Holy Sons?

EA: It would take a 5 volume set of encyclopedias to lay it all out. But for our purposes, my father gave me a four-track and I started documenting everything in ’92. HolySons records didn’t start being released until 2000 though… and now the new one is the 13th album.

In the Garden is out October 21st. What can we expect from this release?

EA: 10 Songs and a lot of Catch-22s.

We see you have quite a few dates coming up. What are you most looking forward to about it?

EA: Its been 5 years since we’ve toured the West Coast so it feels like this is going to be a relatively exotic trip in some sort of Lawrence of Arabia way. We’ve added some really old & brand new songs that will make the set X-TRA SPICY too, so we’re READY to PLEASE.

In all of these years of creating music, is there anything you find you must need when touring or in the studio?

EA: Rest and DRINKS.

If your music were a donut, what kind would it be and why?

EA: I can’t imagine the acrobatics of this analogy being worth rendering for the intended adult audience.

Do you believe in magic?

EA: Hell no… there’s only hard work.

Anything you’d like to add?

EA: Anything I could add is all in the new podcast “Drifter’s Sympathy” on Feral Audio.
