The reliably oddball psych-rock vets closed out the summer outdoor series at Stern Grove in San Francisco with a (confetti-filled) bang. The Lips played their 2002 classic record Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots in full, complete with gigantic inflatable pink robots taking over the stage, huge inflatable balls thrown into the crowd, and the aforementioned piles of confetti. Before the show, the band were honored by Mayor London Breed, who presented singer Wayne Coyne with a proclamation declaring August 20th, 2023 “The Flaming Lips Day” in San Francisco.
