Fort Totten, located in Bayside, Queens, used to be an active fort and continues to be the official headquarters of the U.S. Army Reserve’s U.S. 77th Division, but it’s largely been a public park since 1974. The last 35 years have allowed a lot of time for the decomposition of those interiors that don’t usually get shown during guided tours. As Nate Dorr explains it, “there are tours of the clean part of the battlements, and plenty of uncleaned, non tour-accessed ruins in the woods.”
