Unless you’re the multi-talented man Ron Burgundy, playing the jazz flute and not sounding like a high school jazz ensemble has proven to be quite difficult throughout music history. No one told that to Chicago-based quartet CAVE. In CAVE’s latest release, a video for "Shikaakwa", a track from their upcoming album Threace, the band experiments by blending complex time signatures and jazz instrumentation with bit-crushed synthesizer tones and kraut-rock inspired grooves from the rhythm section. The song accompanies a tripped out video done in a style known as “vector rescanning” using rare and outdated video synthesizers to create an effect of neon lights and swirling waves over the band performing “Shikaakwa.”
Threace is out on October 15 through Drag City.
