Remember when the music video gods helped us heal after losing Christopher Wallace before the release of his sophomore album Life After Death by creating the "Sky's The Limit" video. Remember how on point those kids were imitating Biggie and Puffy and how it felt appropriate when Biggie rapped, "I mean loyalty: niggas bought me milks at lunch /The milks was chocolate. The cookies? Butter crunch /'88 – Oshkosh and blue and white dunks"?
Danny Brown's video for "Grown Up" is a lot like "Sky's The Limit", without all the "missing you" feelings. Instead, what we have is a tiny doppleganger, who's ability to mimic Brown's signature goofball faces is uncanny. Just when you think, "man this kid has all his teeth though", director Greg Brunkalla drops in a scene involving an accident over the BMX handlebars that knocks out the tyke's teeth. (Sidebar: When the kid-version of Brown gets up after busting up his grill, his reaction is so goddamn awesome/adorable/swagged up.) All in all, the video for "Grown Up" balances just enough cool without too much cute.
