Declaime and Georgia Anne Muldrow created their “Cops Ain’t Sh*t” track in the wake of Mike Brown’s murder at the hands of then-St. Louis cop Darren Wilson. Now, in the wake of yet another shooting of an unarmed Black person, the married couple and musical colleagues release a video for the Saul Williams-featured followup “Cops Still Ain’t Sh*t.” The video was officially released shortly after Stephon Clark’s shooting in Sacramento, and we post it today as news came out of Louisiana that Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II won’t be charged in the murder of Alton Sterling.
Today is as good as any to hear the trio out on their criticisms of the police system. SomeOthaShip connect and visual artist Oji crafted the video, which depicts protests and fateful car stops that highlight the glaring disconnect between citizens and cops – as a microcosm of the country’s racial/social disconnect. The track is a single from Declaime’s Young Spirit album, which is now out on SomeOthaShip Connect/eOne Music.
