There is likely no other city in the world, other than maybe London, where the title of “Hardest Working Band” means more than New York. Since forming in 2015, Brooklyn-based rockers Fruit & Flowers have wasted no time in rising up and truly earning that mantle while honing their sound and chemistry. Straight up; if you live in New York, call yourself a local music fan and haven’t caught any of the innumerable, incendiary Fruit & Flowers sets since their inception, something’s wrong.
Oh! And did I mention Fruit & Flowers have done all this with only a debut single, “Turquiose,” and another cut written and recorded in 24 hours, “Way Out,” formally to their credit?
That’s all changing now as the band comprised of Caroline Yoder (bass, vox), Ana Becker (guitar, vox), Lyzi Wakefield (guitar, vox) and Jose Berrio (drums) just announced their debut EP, Drug Tax, which is led by the single/video “Out Of Touch.”
On the track, Fruit & Flowers whip up that sort of wistful, mystic, dark-hued nostalgia we all have in indulging fantasies of far-flung or far gone past lovers. The devil is in the details in “Out Of Touch” as each individual member of Fruit & Flowers can be heard flexing lead chops of sorts while locking into entrancing vocal harmonies.
