On “Home,” the soulful title track of his upcoming album, Illa celebrates the city of Detroit, which helped shape he and his brother J. Dilla’s unrivaled musical craft. Over a warm soundscape anchored by a vocal sample that emanates the nexus of relief and bliss, Illa pledges, “I’ll be there for you,” a statement that’s at the essence of what family means.
The Die Ottos-helmed video showcases the rich history of Detroit. Illa sits on the steps of his childhood home throughout the video. He gets a lineup at the H&H hair studio. He brings cousins, nieces, and other family into the festivities. All the while, the two-step ready drums smoothly pluck along, there to keep the good times going.
