Latasha Alcindor is one of the leading names in the new Brooklyn underground, and her newest single “BC” is a prime example why.
Over simple, thumping Dancehall percussion and a subtle sample of the classic horns from Craig Mack’s “Flava In Ya Ear,” LA waxes on a range of topics on the three minute track. She speaks on resisting temptations–romantic or otherwise–and her “binary vision” that helps her see past the BS that so many people seem to be full of these days.
The second verse sees her expressing her POV of “population control” and the predation Black men are currently facing. Her delivery alternates between a subdued, sing-songy melody and a more intense, rapid flow depending on the topic she’s tackling.
The XREATIONSTATION-directed visual augment’s LA’s vivid, meandering lyrics with colorful backdrops and a host of different outlets, displayng the many sides that coalesce to define her. “BC” is a strong track with a lyrical output and video that perfectly embodies LA’s ethos: “to be all I can be. Everything.”
