Ruby the RabbitFoot has been wasting no time, releasing singles off of her recent full-length Divorce Party accompanied by dreamy, slightly surreal music videos. The latest video in this series, which explores the tension between the idyllic playfulness of young love and the uncertainty of transitioning into adulthood, is “Ancil.” A more direct peak into her perspective, this video was shot by Ruby using an iPhone.
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to spend a lucid Saturday afternoon running around your friend’s beach-side neighborhood in Southern California, I have to imagine that in the best case scenario it would be like this music video. Especially if there’s a tiny toy saxophone involved. Like most of her preceding videos, “Ancil” combines a strange intensity with a sense of youthful joy that leaves you wondering why you’re sitting in on your couch watching this video on your iPhone, when you could be outside creating one instead.
