LA-based, New Jersey-born MC Rugby Wild is making a splash in a short period of time. Riding the wave of his debut W.I.L.D. EP, which featured “Chevy,” Rugby is setting himself apart as a fun-loving-yet-technically adept MC – and people are taking notice. In between crafting music for well known brands like Jeep, Rugby has been preparing Millennials, his debut album.
The first track is “Topanga,” a dreamy, sunsoaked record that pulls unabashedly from the ’80s as Rugby rhymes about wild nights and getting drunk off Modelo. The track’s graceful sample is paired with an ’80s-inspired, Darrell Nash-directed video that chronicles Rugby’s Fresh Princesque trek from New Jersey to the sunny streets of LA. Millennials, described by his camp as “made-for-summer,” delves into what happens to a kid’s joyous, carefree nature as they mature.
Hopefully Rugby keeps the skillful MCing and artistic ambition he showcased with “Topanga” and the back-to-the-future style video as he grows.
