Ryan Hemsworth is part of an interesting sea change in hip hop, as the producers are no longer the reclusive masterminds that are lucky if they get invited to be tour DJ. Hemsworth is among producers like Harry Fraud and Araabmuzik, that are on the verge, if not already across the threshold, of being more important as solo artists than collaborators with a decorated resume.
Off Hemsworth's Last Words EP, "Charly Wingate" aligns him with the Wedidit collective, who are unabashed in their trap appreciation and in their ability to distort it to their darker, more push-button collage vision of the style. With remixes from Shlohmo and other friends on the EP, Last Words is a shoe-in for our Best of August list.
