Shakes, “Strange Tide”

Post Author:

New Zealand-based Shakes is bringing us some vibey jams from halfway around the world. Their latest single – “Strange Tides” – debuted at number 2 on the NZ indie charts, and looks to be climbing in popularity. And we can see why. The song utilizes their swoon-worthy accents to depict an infatuation that they just can’t seem to shake. (See what I did there?)

The sentiment behind the song is certainly universal. We’ve been in situations where we’ve been highly attracted to a person or situation that we should not be vibing at all. Shakes just finds a more eloquent way to portray our thoughts. With lyrics like “I hate the way you do that / Knock me off of my feet like some kind of wrecking ball / I hate the way you say my name / Like a foreign language rolling off of someone else’s tongue” and a harmony that just won’t quit, we’re very big fans of this jam.
