Cults
Our longtime champions Brian Oblivion & Madeline Follin of Cults recently special guested our Week in Pop feature with their own exclusive selections & are readying the anticipated release of their new album Offering available October 6 through Sinderlyn. A group forever expanded & elaborating upon their sound, Madeline & Brian take us for a walk down the paths of the independent underground sects of the 1980s to champion the analog cadence of their favorite home-recorded heroes.
Sharing a listen to the new single “Right Words” finds Cults pondering the right things, the right times, and all those particular life-scheduling items & idiosyncrasies that we all find ourselves obsessing over. The projections of confused conundrums & outward public image concerns & considerations all collect here in a single that soars with an AM radio rocking glow that offers a panacea from the myriad madness of optics, online avatars & more. “Right Words” is delivered by Madeline as they both make a super sweet synth shimmering reminder to shake off the apprehension of overwrought obsessions & enjoy your own autonomous individuality. Cults introduced the new single with the following thoughts:
We are excited to share “Right Words”, the third single off of Offering. This song was like the nebula of the album. We worked on it forever because it kept breeding new parts that would go on to be their own tracks. Musically it’s inspired by 80s power pop bands like Cleaners From Venus and R Stevie Moore, and lyrically it’s a conversation about not letting abstract ideas of success pollute your brain. Play it loud!
Cults’ upcoming album Offering will be available October 6 via Sinderlyn. Catch them on the following displayed tour dates:
