Alpine Roses, “Racer 5”

Before guitarist and solo musician Brendan Codey left the city of Philadelphia behind in favor of the foreign waters of Berlin, his collaborations with Dan Svizeny of Cough Cool/Blackhawks had been the stuff of starter legend. Hippy Johnny, a sort-of joke project that blew out a huge psychedelic sound, was one, while another was the oft-teased Alpine Roses project, one where an image (above) and a short snippet of a track was released earlier this year, with a promise for more music to come in 2014. The release of the Alpine Roses tape is coming much sooner than we expected: a three-track cassingle through Treetop Sorbet Recordings that features the track “Racer 5”, which we're premiering below. It has all the hallmarks of Svizeny's Cough Cool—fuzzy, hidden vocals and a boppy bass line—while Codey's contribution obviously filters through in the expressive guitar lines that punctures the lo-fi bubble.

This track, along with “Electric Menorah” and “30 West (Crossing)”, will release through Treetop Sorbet Recordings in the second edition of their cassingle series on September 23. You can head here to get a subscription to the first volume, which also features tapes from The Young Sinclairs and White Laces.
