Between group projects C.R.A.C. and Johnson & Jonson, Blu released solo songs written and produced entirely by him on his Myspace page. “Glory Us” instantly became one of my favorite songs last year with its clever sampling of some dusty recording possibly from a Tin Pan Alley era of music. It was an affirmation that Blu was talented beyond the aid of producer collaborations.
My hope for Her Favorite Colo(u)r was to hear more proof of Blu's exceptional production style matched with clever, flowing prose. Blu delivers, cutting deeper into the style he penned on “Glory Us.” My only concern on this release is Blu as a rapper. The man sounds exhausted. It's got to be taxing to be such a sought after spitter, constantly gracing magazine covers, making videos and touring relentlessly. Listening to Her Favorite Colo(u)r, I can't help but hear the hoop-la catching up to him.
Nonetheless, this is another release Blu fans need in the collection.
