Listening to “Tie,” one can’t help but recognize a requiem for a world unknown. After releasing three records on Japanese label flau and touring with Julianna Barwick and Grouper in support of her 2013 album Butterfly Case, Tokyo-based artist Cuushe is releasing her new EP on Brooklyn-based label Cascine.
The first single, Night Lines, is a mesmerizing, atmospheric dialogue between vocals and instrumentals. The song is driven by a synthy bassline, which Cuushe’s vocals follow with breathy longing. The track constantly shifts without losing momentum, all the while creating an atmosphere straight from Cuushe’s imagination.
Night Lines is out April 7 on Cascine. The album will also be released on flau.
