You can kind of hear half of Conor Oberst's oeuvre in the first turn of the first verse of Daniel Johnston's “Freedom”, but, you know, shed of aspirational songwriting that tries to fill the shoes of some folk forefather. No disputes coming from this camp that Daniel Johnston's true-originality is the combination pb&j sandwhich and velcro sneakers of rock 'n' roll. Easier done then thought of first, as the saying goes somewhere. But the real kick in the pants of Is And Always Wascomes from Jason Falkner, new collaborator/producer, whose past work includes Air's 10,000 Hz Legend, if that indicates anything to you.
