“Rainbows” is the lead-off track of Noveller's upcoming fall release Red Rainbows. As the shortest release by three minutes on an outing that includes the nearly twenty minute “Bends,” it's also easily the most concise and controlled mission statement for her shimmering double-neck guitar drone. With a simple fifth interval heralding the beginning of the track, a slow melody arches across what you'd hope to be a massive vaulted cathedral. It pulses and expands, while those initial low-end drones call and respond, until an atonal mist fills the space like a fragrant incense swirling around the processional melody.
With Sarah Lipstate's membership in Parts and Labor officially over, it's also the lead-off track to a period she promises to spend focused more exclusively on Noveller, along with her film work, which you can get a glimpse of on Red Rainbows and her website.
