French Horn Rebellion, Classically Trained

Post Author:

Today Impose has the exclusive premiere of Classically Trained, the new album from Brooklyn based French Horn Rebellion due out this Friday, October 14. The record is a stylish, groovy collection of songs that sounds like a primer on the history of electronic music as heard from the genre’s cutting edge. With Classically Trained, the Milwaukee-born brothers Robert and David Perlick-Molinari bring their years of experience as remixers and producers to bear on their own compositions that recall some of pop’s greatest moments through new, vibrant sounds and structure.

Recorded at David Perlick-Molinari’s own YouTooCanWoo Studio in Brooklyn, Classically Trained opens with a slow burn disco jam that sparkles with electronic joy. The loungy synth bounce of “Classical Baby” is followed up by the brassy, funk bombast of “Second Opinion”. Out of the gate, the album evokes legendary musical moments from Duran Duran to Michael Jackson to Giorgio Moroder with songs that still set themselves apart with lavish modern production and style.

“Oh Sarah!” is EDM through a world rhythm/jam rock prism and “Michael McDonald” is a blissful cruise through the neon retro tones of yacht rock:  a steely, smooth tune the titular Doobie Brother himself would no doubt groove and approve of. On “Life Choices”, French Horn Rebellion & LEFTI pose the question “What you gonna do with your life tonight?” and Classically Trained makes dancing the night away seem like a perfectly valid option whether it’s to the sparse rhythms of “Marching Punks” or the symphonic musings of “The Movement”. French Horn Rebellion may be trained in the ways of love as the album’s title track says, but they’ve also clearly got an education in dance music and with Classically Trained they’ve created a masterwork to keep the dance floor packed for ages.

Classically Trained will be released this Friday, October 14, but is available for pre-order now. You can follow French Horn Rebellion on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SoundCloud, and on their website at www.frenchhornrebellion.com.
