The Fresh & Onlys, “Who Let the Devil”

Fresh and Onlys

San Francisco's The Fresh & Onlys are back, readying their new album House of Spirits to haunt our homes next month. Sending out rhythmic bass tremors with the first single “Who Let the Devil”, gnostic vocals echo throughout, letting us know what The F&O team have been up to since they released Long Slow Dance in 2012.

The past few years have given us solo work from Wymond Miles with the excellent Under the Pale Moon and Earth Has Doors. While Shayde Sartin and Kyle Gibson held it down in the Bay, Tim Cohen swirled around projects with Magic Trick, Window Twins and his stewardship of Cool Ghouls, even moving to Arizona to focus on being a father until he recently made a return to SF. From all this, The Fresh & Onlys reemerge to send their nurturing fictitious narratives into the meta-spaces of our minds.

Using the accumulation of their recent experiences, The Fresh & Onlys depict haunted houses as a natural habitation—an abode for the spirits, benign and malicious. On “Who Let the Devil”, supernatural forces take to the secular realm like helium inside an animal-shaped balloon, as evinced in the howling lyrical cry “who let the devil walk into my house, when I was born dying.” The Beetlejuice-like haunting plays between the interaction of the house's dupicitious owners of differing forms and their corresponding influences. Stream the metaphysical inquiry below.
