Supervening a successful Kickstarter campaign early last year, the first episode of Hollywood Nailz makes its official Youtube debut. Brainchild of Seth Bogart (Hunx) and friend, Brande Bytheway, the sketch comedy variety show is something of Wonder Showzen meets Pee-wee’s Playhouse. Featuring an assortment of spoof television programs and commercials for ineffectual products, the aesthetic would make a young John Waters proud. Check out the “The Dipping Station” endorsement, which appears to pay homage to the ghost of Edith (The Egg Lady) Massey with egg carton placement alone!
And next, the star-studded, “Interpretation,” is an American Bandstand meets American Idol segment with a judging panel consisting of Nobunny, King Khan, Miss Shannon, and Ringo Rock Yay. Watch Grass Widow vs. Shannon and The Clams duking it out on stage for the $1M award for best song interpretation.
Unfolding like one-part beautiful and one-part strange and garish nightmare, the slow bits and slightly off timing makes the charm. For more satire, watch the rest of the show in it’s entirety posted on Hollywood Nailz’ website.
