Rap and sandwich bags are typically grouped together to illustrate pushing weight in eighths. Junk Science are putting an artisanal meal on the lunch table, though, with the packaging for Junk Science and the Hundred Dollar Sandwich. To us, this is a first. Subway might call its employees sandwich artists, but Junk Science rightfully repurpose the slang for its latest record. Designed by the incomparable Cool Calm Pete, the contents of the zip-lock baggie include two clear substrate CDs as the bread, 10 individual die-cut ingredients pages of lyrics and liner notes, and the baggie itself is freezer-safe to ensure the ultimate freshness for the music.
But how does it sound, right? “The Science of Stupid” is traditional Junk Science that earned the duo a roster spot on Definitive Jux ages ago, and exists in an inventive realm that never goes out of style. Rapper Baje One explains his methods with “I was a scientist before I was an emcee,” which translates to a calculated thought process over the production from former Impose editorialist Snafu. Enough about the root of all evil, Baje One declares money to be the root of all dumb shit, missing the days when rap was fun shit, and “The Science of Stupid” dances with the devil’s currency in a myriad of visualizations.
