Leave it to Now-Again to unearth the godfather of Iranian psyche-rock's alledgedly lost recordings. Recorded in a pre-revolution Iran in the 1970s, Kourosh Yaghmaei had to conceal his music once Islamic fundamentalists seized control and began burning record companies and harassing musicians. Several pre-revolution musicians fled Iran, but Kourosh stayed out of loyalty to his birth country despite being banned from performing and recording for 22 out of the last 32 years.
Entitled Back From The Brink, the collection revisits Kourosh's music from 1973 to 1979, in which Kourosh recorded as a trio with his brothers Kamran and Kambiz. The group played second hand instruments and sought inspiration in records by The Kinks, The Ventures and The Doors, merging the psyche-sounds with Iranian folkloric music.
Back From The Brink is out August 23 on Now-Again on CD and vinyl formats. As always the packaging is supreme in style and comes with a booklet detailing the history of the artist.
