Kowloon Walled City must be destroyed

Post Author:

San Francisco-based Kowloon Walled City have a no-frill sludge-to-metal factory in their debut Gambling on the Richter Scale.

Named after an area of Hong Kong that was one of the most densely populated places on earth prior to its planned destruction by authorities, the band pack as much low-end and weight as humanly possible with guitars and bass. Out on Perpetual Motion Machine, the album departs from its particular brand of deep and heavy (“girth” is a word they use) for Pelican-flights into melody and space on tracks like “Sleep Debt” and the title track before it goes delving back into the stoner grind of Melvins stomach pummeling.

Incidentally, lo-fi kid rock Impose favorites Fungi Girls have a song called Kowloon Walled City. (Click through to the third song below to hear it.)
