How about a smooth alternative love song to begin your weekend? LANY’s new single “yea, babe, no way” is going to be on repeat on both my Spotify and Apple Music playlist. The same should go for you. We know we’re not the only ones that are so enamored by them. They recently wrapped up their first headlining tour, which was completely sold out before they played the first show.
As a love song, “yea, babe, no way” gets at the heart of how seemingly successful relationships can end without really understanding why, and how the love may still linger. But as an alternative/pop song, “yea, babe, no way” is just fun to jam to. And hell, this song is so good, I can’t even get over the title. As a title, it rolls off the tongue, but the lyrics also fit snugly into the catchy chorus but are broken up to create a whole different meaning:
“everything was better when
you would call and I’d be like
yea babe
we should talk about love again
every night I’m wide awake
I almost call ya then I’m like
no way”
I like the change in meaning from the title to the chorus. While together, the phrase “yea, babe, no way,” seems like a complete brush off, but broken up in the chorus, it’s clear the person singing is having trouble accepting the end of something important, making LANY’s new single an incredibly relatable new track.
