Since the first edition of his Caligula mixtape series dropped, experimental producer Lee Bannon dipped out of Sacramento in favor of Brooklyn and has rubbed elbows with the likes of Joey Basa$$, Pro Era, Smoke DZA and Juicy J on the road and in the studio. Fast forward a year and Bannon has dropped the next voume of the series with Caligula Theme Music Vol. 2.7.5. Again, it finds the prolific producer leaning on trap-style drums, weaving in a variety of vocal samples to create some ish you're going to want to bump at a high volume. Getting features from Matt Stoops, Rokamouth, Kirk Knight and Chuck Strangers, the verses are there but usually get chopped up and filtered into the production.
First single and definite standout, “YG&A” (Young, Gold & Arrogant), fully engages booming bass and those familiar ratchety high-hats to create the anthem of the tape. “Three Bitches” is the more conventional jam, with clear-cut verses and a quota-filling Alexander Wang namedrop. With multiple Raider Klan shoutouts, the nature of Bannon's involvement with the crew is curious but he probably prefers keeping you on your toes. Following a production credit on Joey Bada$$'s recent (and misguided) Lil B “diss” track and some unreleased work with Trinidad James, it's safe to say you'll be hearing plenty more out of Lee Bannon's camp in the near future.
