Philly’s own (and Impose’s beloved) Purling Hiss are a couple of months away from the release of their new album, Weirdon, off of which comes their most recent single, “Learning Slowly”. Last spring, we chatted with bandleader Mike Polizze surrounding the release of the band’s last album, Water On Mars. One thing that carries over between releases, though the sound shifts in degrees of polish, is the feeling of being in good hands, sonically, as a listener, owing to much more than simply Polizze’s guitar chops. The track moves in anthemic blasts, hooks that reinvent themselves at each turn, and vocal moans and growls. “I’m treading lightly,” Polizze sings, but we don’t believe it for a second.
Weirdon will be released on Drag City September 23. Stream “Learning Slowly” and check out Purling Hiss’ tour dates below the embed.
