Raekwon, “Butter Knives”

Word is Raekwon's fifth studio album Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang is completed, which is definitely the good word of the day.

The first glimpse into the project is a Bronze Nazareth production that hones a classic Wu-Forever era sound of symphony samples over the grittiest drums on the black market and plenty of Kung Fu movie samples – shing! shing! Lex Diamond excels with drug tales over this ilk of production, which I'll take plenty of on his upcoming album.

Although I also hope Rae's camp took notice to the response he got for his contributions to Kanye's “Gorgeous”, “Stay Off The Fucking Flowers” on the Blakroc record and the “Michael Knight Remix”. As good as Rae meshes with Wu's principles, I'm of the impression no voice in rap is better suited for this recent surge of live blues/soul instrumentation applied to hip hop. If the Blakroc camp could produce an entire record on par with “Stay Off The Fucking Flowers,” we'd possibly have Rae's second greatest effort – just a hunch I have.
